Members’ Update – 22nd Sept 2021

Hi everyone

We trust that all our members are safe and well. We realise that playing our part in the Team of 5 million can be tough. On Monday the government announced an increase of the 50-person limit to 100 in Alert Level 2. So that’s great news that we can welcome back more of our members to the Club from Wednesday 22 September.

WeI would like to let you know that we recently discovered there was a glitch with the bulk email system over lockdown which meant some members did not receive our Covid-19 update emails. Our apologies for this. The messages were published to Facebook and to the website so hopefully many of you were able to catch up with what was happening at the Club via those channels. We are working with our IT providers to resolve this as quickly as possible.

The Club is open under Alert Level 2 restrictions with 100 people allowed in a designated area.

Here’s what you need to know at this stage for your visit to the Club:

  • Keeping Safe
    • If you are sick or showing symptoms, please stay home.
    • Scanning in with the app or our paper-based system is mandatory
    • You will need to be seated and separated by a 1m from other groups.
    • We ask that you wear a mask when you are not eating or drinking unless you have an exemption.
    • Please sanitise regularly.
    Designated Areas and Limits
    • A maximum of 100 people is permitted in the designated Club area at any time. This is strictly enforced.
    • Entry is restricted to members and one guest only.
    • We may also open the Balcony Bar in the late afternoon on Friday or Saturday as a separate designated area upstairs which can accommodate an additional 100 people. Note you cannot mix areas without leaving the building and queueing for the other area.
    What is operating
    • The club will open at 9am and closing times will be subject to demand at the discretion of the Duty Manager.
    • The Café will be open at all times the club is open. The restaurant is closed through Alert Level 2.
    • The bar, cafe, barista, TAB (self-service terminals only) will be operating.
    • The poker machines are operating; however, no eating or drinking is allowed in the gaming area.
    • The Courtesy Coach will be available every day from 5pm every half hour north and south for drop offs only. The Courtesy Coach will depart from outside the Garden Bar to avoid queues at reception. Masks must be always worn in the Courtesy Coach.
    • All entertainment remains cancelled. Refunds for any cancelled shows are available from Reception.
    • There will be no membership draws, handle club draws, raffles will not be sold.
    • The dart boards, 8 Ball tables and snooker tables are closed until Alert Level 1.
    • The October new members meeting is cancelled. New members will receive their membership cards though the post after being approved by the Executive.
    • Our Otaki holiday home remains closed.
    Service and Payment
    • Purchases must be made with Loyalty Points from your membership card. Please load money on your membership card at reception upon arrival.
    • You can also place money on your membership card through our website but please note that this will not be processed until the following day.
    • Table service is mandatory. Please take a seat and wait for your server to take your order.
    • Staff will be masked and must remain 1m from customers. Please respect this.
    We are mindful that this is an inconvenience for us all, however we ask for your consideration, as together we play our part to beat Covid.

About the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club Inc.

The Upper Hutt Cossie Club Inc. was formed in 1961 and completely destroyed by fire in 2003. The Club was rebuilt and re-opened in 2005 and is one of the leading clubs in New Zealand. In recent years the club has won many prestigious awards including:

  • Monday and Tuesday: 9:00am - 10:00pm
  • Wednesday and Thursday: 9:00am - 11:00pm
  • Friday and Saturday: 9:00am - 1:00am
  • Sunday: 9:00am - 9:00pm

Courtesy coach
